Blog 9 covid, OER and PowerPoints

Image
When covid happened I was a freshman and high school. It was March of 2020 and I was going on vacation and then we were told we weren't going to be able to return to school. We started doing online school where the teachers would just post assignments for us to complete and we would do them by the end of the week. It was very easy assignments so I feel like I didn’t learn a ton the second semester. One thing I liked was that I was with my family but it also got boring after a while. My routine was all over the place. I think if I’m a teacher and their is distance learning I can help my students by making sure the assignments are fun and even maybe hold zoom calls so students don’t feel behind and feel confused on assignments.  The OER is basically allowing people to use your resource for a greater purpose. They are educational resources that are open to the public. They can bounce ideas off of them, maybe revise them into their own new idea or even change some factor and remix it. ...

Blog 8 AI in the classroom

After doing the web design assignment, I first have never created my own website. So that was my first time learning the basic tools of weebly and how to work the page. I also learned the importance of adding a common creative license so others can use your work without being at risk for plagiarism. I learned all the different important features to running a classroom website. This included things like an about me section, a parent announcement page and a resource page. I learned the importance of a balance of all these different pages. I thought the assignment was pretty straightforward. I didn’t like how sometimes the layout would get messed up on a page and I wouldn’t know how to fix or undo what I just completed so that took time to figure out. Overall I thought it was very helpful for the future when I will create my own classroom page!  See my website here! AI tools have become increasingly helpful as it became more of a known feature. I started using AI features in th...

Blog 7

I found a teacher page at an elementary school called Heathrow elementary. This was a third grade classroom which had 2 teachers, an English and Social Studies teacher and a Math and Science teacher. Some information contained on this website was a little introduction about themselves. They also included an area where you could find websites that students could use that are helpful for learning. They also included basic information like when homework is due and where it will be written and the daily schedules. They also have a link where parents can sign up and be volunteers in the classroom.  Classroom website  I envision myself using a lot of technology in the classroom. I love being crafty so I think I will use many different platforms. My first example is classdojo. I can keep track of a point system in my classroom so students can be rewarded for good behavior. I can use Khan academy to make sure students are on track and students can use it to get extra practice. I can u...

Blog 6 Web tools

My initial experience using Diigo was that it kind of looks like a google search engine with all the different websites linked on it. I think it is pretty easy to use. It wasn't hard to figure out the different tools like using a sticky note and connecting it to the search engine. I didn’t like that it kinda looks a little old like the formatting.  I actually really enjoy blogging! It is the first time I have ever done this and I think it is the perfect way for us to discuss our opinions. I like it better than just using a discussion board on canvas like most teachers use. I have learned so many new things about the internet that i didn’t know and it opened my abilities to be able to search the internet better.  An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I could use while teaching is Presi. I really enjoy this website because it gives students the opportunity to follow along with your lesson and answer questions to keep them engaged. This app can also be used for students to crea...

Teaching through technology

 1. I haven’t really ever used twitter so I am not very familiar with it. I am very familiar with instagram and use it all the time. I can use instagram to follow other teachers who may be just in the beginning of their career or others who are far into their career. I can get inspiration for my classroom or even just things they have learned being a teacher over time. I find it beneficial because it is easy to use and I can look up almost anything and get tons of ideas.  2. As time goes on the digital divide is getting smaller and smaller as technology becomes more apparent for everyone. The digital divide affects students in many ways. One thing that is affected is homework and assignments. This happens when students are required to do work at home that is online. This may be a problem for students who don’t have internet access at home. This may cause students to have to go to the library to get a computer.  Some causes of the digital divide are where you live. You m...

Internet research through the classroom

 1.  After reading the standards, I picked grades K-2 and the standard of having a responsible use of technology and information. This standard is all about internet safety. It goes from how to make decisions safely like keeping electronics away from things that will break it like food or water. The next benchmark is teaching students how to be responsible while being online. This starts from reporting bullying and understanding what is appropriate for that age and what isn’t. The third one talks about how to safely talk to others online and how to know if it's safe communication or not. The last benchmark is keeping your passwords safe. This is teaching kids the importance of not sharing passwords. I believe this could be an easier topic to show students with a little more research. I think before I would need to teach this to students I would need to know a little bit more about the popular websites and gaming for this age and how they work so I am educated on the topic abou...

AI and technology in the classroom

I believe now a days with all the technology that is available for students it is very difficult to manage all the cheating. I think dealing with this as a teacher is first addressing the issuing telling the class you know how it works and there will be consequences if it does happen. I have learned over the years there are always new ways to cheat but I believe there are ways you can avoid this. A way you can avoid this is trying not to repeat the same test questions are assignments so students can’t share their work from previous years.   Something that could be fixed is cyber bullying I think there are many ways you can address this subject you could do this by having the school devices have any times of site that has a lot of bulling be blocked so students can’t access the app. I believe this will help control bullying happening during school hours. I think another way to control this issue is inviting parents for an informational session. I think you could help control ...
