Blog 8 AI in the classroom

 After doing the web design assignment, I first have never created my own website. So that was my first time learning the basic tools of weebly and how to work the page. I also learned the importance of adding a common creative license so others can use your work without being at risk for plagiarism. I learned all the different important features to running a classroom website. This included things like an about me section, a parent announcement page and a resource page. I learned the importance of a balance of all these different pages. I thought the assignment was pretty straightforward. I didn’t like how sometimes the layout would get messed up on a page and I wouldn’t know how to fix or undo what I just completed so that took time to figure out. Overall I thought it was very helpful for the future when I will create my own classroom page! See my website here!

AI tools have become increasingly helpful as it became more of a known feature. I started using AI features in the beginning to the middle of my senior year of high school. (In 2022) I like to use AI tools. The one I specifically use the most is Chat GPT. I believe it is very helpful in school for basic things like writing an essay and I'm trying to think of a better word to use. I just go to chat GPT on safari and ask the bot to give me a better word choice for this word. I believe most teachers don’t motivate AI because they don’t think kids will use it for the correct purpose ( which happens a lot). I think the AI tool is pretty straightforward. There are also many different AI websites to choose from. It really just depends on your preference. 

After getting the hang of AI you understand it still can’t help you with everything. I have learned it is good with more language subjects and subjects with one answer. When I was struggling in statistics, I wanted to get an example of a problem so I knew how to do future problems. But i realized AI isn’t very helpful because they don’t understand because there are many steps involved and sometimes it is inference based which you can’t let AI do. I believe my perception of AI has stayed the same while using it because I think it has become more helpful as I have gotten into college. When teaching I think you need to accept the fact that you can’t prevent children from using AI. So, you may as well take it and make it into something you can use for the better in the classroom. You can encourage students to look up things they may not know or tell them to get a question explained in a different way. But you should also remind them of what AI can do and how teachers can tell when you use them. 

I think AI tools can help productivity. I believe it saves people time being able to look up everything in one space. I also think it can help you get an answer faster than you would in the normal database because there is only one option instead of multiple websites like google shows. I think it can help me as a teacher to come up with ideas very fast. Like let's say we have extra time after a lesson and I didn’t think we would. I can go to AI type in the lesson we learned and they can give me a game for review practice to compete with my students.
