Blog 9 covid, OER and PowerPoints
When covid happened I was a freshman and high school. It was March of 2020 and I was going on vacation and then we were told we weren't going to be able to return to school. We started doing online school where the teachers would just post assignments for us to complete and we would do them by the end of the week. It was very easy assignments so I feel like I didn’t learn a ton the second semester. One thing I liked was that I was with my family but it also got boring after a while. My routine was all over the place. I think if I’m a teacher and their is distance learning I can help my students by making sure the assignments are fun and even maybe hold zoom calls so students don’t feel behind and feel confused on assignments.
The OER is basically allowing people to use your resource for a greater purpose. They are educational resources that are open to the public. They can bounce ideas off of them, maybe revise them into their own new idea or even change some factor and remix it. When researching articles about OER I came across an article called “More Professors Aware of, and using, open educational resources. This article basically recalls all the professors were at an all time high and using OER. This article talked about how useful OER is as well saying it helps students cut down on textbooks. Even though covid took a hit at the OER it is coming back up. A lot of professors were not aware of the all inclusive access and that is so sad that students could have that opportunity but they don’t. Article Link
After doing the PowerPoints about information dissemination. I liked having some knowledge of PowerPoints from doing past assignments on it. I also liked being able to use photos and knowing how to already create a common license because it made it easier to complete the PowerPoint faster. Something I didn’t like is that sometimes I would miss a step and it would mess up the task I was trying to complete. Then I would have to go back and analyze what I did wrong and fix it. Overall I think it was a great learning experience I can use in the future so I know how to do more PowerPoint lessons.
