Internet research through the classroom
1. After reading the standards, I picked grades K-2 and the standard of having a responsible use of technology and information. This standard is all about internet safety. It goes from how to make decisions safely like keeping electronics away from things that will break it like food or water. The next benchmark is teaching students how to be responsible while being online. This starts from reporting bullying and understanding what is appropriate for that age and what isn’t. The third one talks about how to safely talk to others online and how to know if it's safe communication or not. The last benchmark is keeping your passwords safe. This is teaching kids the importance of not sharing passwords. I believe this could be an easier topic to show students with a little more research. I think before I would need to teach this to students I would need to know a little bit more about the popular websites and gaming for this age and how they work so I am educated on the topic about how they can stay safe while having fun.
2. I looked at the grades and picked 2nd then I picked language arts. I decided to pick a lesson plan called fundraising on a budget. This lesson plan goes into details about students getting into small groups to figure out who they want to hire for their art gallery event. This included catering, a band and artists. I think I can use the resources in my teaching because it gives an idea how long the lesson is supposed to be. It tells me keywords can be very helpful so I know what to include if dealing with budgets with 2nd graders. It also goes into detail about using a format called Meas which are open ended questions that require students to create answers based on their thinking concepts. This can be helpful because it can be used in other lessons as well as this one open ended questions can be great to get kids thinking.
